Among the participants are the Nigerian National Team, led by their Head Coach, Stephen Keshi, a former football defender who led the team to victory at the 2013 AFCON in South Africa. So, what does any of this have to do with the new release from Astra-P[@AstRaP_King]? Absolutely nothing. But you’ll find the linkage interesting as the NMMNG crew rapper(@McNMMNG) and Lekadot[@Lekadotni], of The Factory Pack, grace the song with punchlines and wordplay involving much knowledge of football and women. Hence the concept of the song which, ironically, appeals to the ladies. Such finesse, such energy. I’m sure you ‘never experred it!’

Nigerian Idol:battle for top prize today?

The stage is now set for Eye-D and Evelle to battle for the top prize in this year’s music talent hunt show, Nigerian Idol. Coincidentally, both Eye-D and Evelle are Wild Card returnees, which means after they were voted out in the Top 30 stage, the judges spotted something unique in them and decided to bring them back through the Wild Card.
Billed for Saturday June 7, at the Dream Studios, Ikeja, Lagos, the final performance of the Top Two contestants will be based on songs from their birth years and also the judges’ picks. In essence, they will be performing for the final round of votes by singing songs the judges have selected for them and also songs that rocked their airwaves and topped charts and billboards the years they were born.
More than before, viewer’s votes will be most valuable to them now as the result show after their performance. After all, it’s the grand finale. Whoever pools the highest number of votes today automatically becomes the new Nigerian Idol and will walk away with a whooping sum of N7.5million, including an SUV jeep and other consolation prices. Unlike in the last edition, the runner-up this year will also get a brand new car as consolation prize for making it to the finals.
Speaking during the week ahead of the grand finale, the Executive Producer of the show represented by the CEO of Optima Media, Rotimi Pedro, noted that it has been an interesting journey, which went round five different cities in the country, scooping talents.“We actually went round the cities to select the contestants, who were later trimmed down to 30 and later 12 finalists. Now, the stage is set for the grand finale. Any of the two can win it,” he said.
“We are using the platform to campaign for the release of our girls who were abducted by the Boko Haram sect. Fortunately, the two finalists are girls. Each year, we give the winner a task. So this year, the winner will be joining the campaign and help mount pressure for the release of our girls. However, the 12 finalists will also produce a song in that direction,” Rotimi added.
According to the judges, Evelle and Eye-D justified their Wild Card choices by getting to the grand finale of the competition. They have improved and shown growth in the way they perform on stage, sing and connect with the audience.
While Nigerians anxiously wait to see who emerges winner, they will also be served musical dishes in live performances by notable stars including Tuface Idibia and Dare Art Alade.

OBITUARY: How Wrong Diagnosis Of Cancer Led To Dora Akunyili’s Death

OBITUARY: How Misdiagnosis Of Cancer Led To Dora Akunyili’s Death-TheCable

When Mrs Dora Nkem Akunyili was the Zonal Secretary (South-east) of the Petroleum (Special) Trust Fund in 1998, Nigerian doctors gave her what many of her family members considered to be a health scare. They said she had a growth and needed surgery.

Akunyili, then 44, decided to travel to the United States, first to get a second opinion and then undergo the prescribed surgery. The bill for the medical trip was $17,000, including $12,000 for the surgery.

During pre-surgery check-up in the US, the doctors told her the Nigerian doctors had made a wrong diagnosis and that she did not need any surgery. It was said to be a minor issue that medication would solve.

She thanked the doctors and, to their surprise, said she was going to return the money meant for the surgery to PTF. That was strange. Nigerian government officials had devised a way of making sure such monies were not returned to the treasury.

The hospital informed the PTF, under the leadership of Major Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, about one honest Nigerian they had found. Buhari, himself a straightforward person, was very impressed. He wrote a letter to Akunyili commending her honesty.

Then came 2001. President Olusegun Obasanjo wanted to appoint a director-general for the National Agency for Drug and Food Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and asked for the recommendation of an honest Nigerian pharmacist. Akunyili’s name promptly came up. Someone who had heard about her PTF record recommended her.

There was a little problem, a Nigerian problem. Objections were raised that the minister of health, Prof. ABC Nwosu, was an Igbo from Anambra State and NAFDAC, being a powerful agency under the ministry, should not be headed by another Igbo from Anambra.

It was also argued that the market for fake and substandard products were controlled by the Igbo, with Onitsha – also in Anambra State – a major centre for the illicit business. She was going to protect “her people”, the antagonists said.
Obasanjo, stubborn to the cause,  ignored the observations and appointed her. She went on to do a credible job and ended up as one of the most outstanding public officers in Nigeria’s history, celebrated locally and globally. She had lost a sister to fake drugs, and that was perhaps the impetus she needed to go on the offensive.

Meanwhile, Akunyili always went abroad for check-ups and she was always given an all-clear. She continued to look robust and energetic, and took up another government job as minister of information and communications. But on July 13, 2013, something strange happened to her. She was preparing to travel to the United States to receive an award. The following day was her birthday. Her 59th, precisely. Then she fell ill. She was physically weak and having pains. She decided to go ahead with her trip and attend to her health in the United States.
t was while she was there that new checks were carried out. Alas, she had cancer. The original diagnosis in 1998 was right. But the diagnosis at the point of surgery was wrong.

She became seriously ill and there were fears she could lose her life. She was in the hospital for months and only returned to Nigeria this year when the doctors said she was improving.
Her last public appearance was at the National Conference in Abuja, where she was a delegate. Pictures of a frail-looking Akumyili soon went viral on the internet.

TheCable could not ascertain the type of cancer, but there are several reports pinpointing cervical – and some claim it was ovarian. Globally, cervical cancer is the second most common and the fifth deadliest cancer in women, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO). Akunyili died on June 7, 2014 in India after surviving many death rumours.

D’banj Signs Tonto Dikeh To DB Records

Guess you didn’t see this coming.

Sources have revealed to that controversial Nigerian actress, Tonto Dikeh, has been signed by D’banj to his recording outfit DB Records.

The deal had previously been speculated earlier this week, after Tonto was photographed with the entire DB Records crew, in what seemed like a get-together of some sort.

Tonto who has achieved remarkable success in Nollywood over the years, had taken the leap into music production, recording, and publishing, but a majority of her songs such as ‘Hi’, ‘Jeje’, and a few more, have received negative and, for the most part, malicious feedback from the Nigerian public. also gathered that along with Tonto Dikeh, DB Records also have added 2 brothers, 2Kriss, who have inked a deal to join the record label. 2Kriss are a collaboration of two brothers with versatile musical productions ranging from Hiphop to Afro-Pop. They previously were signed onto Bigboyz Ent, but with their crossover to DB Records, their career can only get bigger.

With speculations and unconfirmed rumours circulating about the Tonto Dikeh deal, there have been mixed reactions to the move. Many are of the opinion that Tonto was not recruited for her musical dexterity, but as a PR stunt to add a certain allure and spotlight on DB Records. Also, it is public knowledge that D’banj and Tonto Dikeh are friends, and the new deal is just a step forward in what has been a good relationship.

Tonto Dikeh on paper, stands to gain a fairly good number of advantages, as she will now have unfettered access to the production abilities of 2Kriss and DeeVee, as well as the mentorship of D’banj and Kay Switch, while also benefiting from the ‘musical’ atmosphere that exist in organized record labels.

So what next for her? A collaboration with D’banj?

Like most artiste CLeMZy started in a group called Soul’PLUZ. They are TWO in the group (CLeMZy & IziK)  Ever since they’ve been together  it has been hard work from these dudes, they recorded their first track at ark media where 9ice and rugged man started their careers.
Suddenly the Soul’PLUZ group decided to go SOLO But they are still best of friends they just decided to do different things.  It has been hard work from CLeMzy ever since the split, and now to his greatest surprise his Muzik his growing better & better than the way it was when he was still in a group.
Currently CLemzy is not in a record label yet. Looking forward to be in one soon, according to him, some RECORDING DILLS have been coming but their offer does not favored him so he had to turn them down because signing a dill that don’t favors an  artist nowadays is a big tym life mistake.

Nigerian Musicians Who Never Made It Despite The Hype

succeed. They only left as fast as they came. They dropped hot singles. Scooped the awards and headlined the shows. Then cut! They vanish. Time fades them away. They’re Nigeria’s one hit wonders. No thanks to Nigeria’s ever evolving and competitive industry, these are the latest of that enviable long list.

She was tipped to show the light. She was touted as the next big thing. She was thought to contend with Sasha P. She did not. With her Waa Wa Alright blazing single came raised hopes. Hopes came crashing with her 2009The Investment album. The album in Clarence Peters own words was a “flop”. Trouble. She looked Clarence in the eye and left his label. Then she lost soul mate endorsement deal to Mo’cheddah. Game over. Kel Vanished. Not a word has been heard.

Remember him? “…All of Una Must Shayo …” His name is Bigiano! He was the dance hall musician that rocked the airwaves in 2008 with Shayo. Almost six years after, he seems not to have struggle with anything but music. His former group partners Triple B may have been quick to rule him out, but not Bigiano. He was not done. No. Not yet. In 2013, he announced his comeback. There was never a comeback.

She’s around! Does she still sing? Simply wired. It was Ijoya from her 2006 After Da storm album that got her serious attention. After that, it appears the only meaningful thing that came close to her own standard was the 2006 Bizzy Body collaboration with P-Square. She now plays the Denrele card. Appearing in just every video in town, and playing catch-up with newbie. Maybe to remain relevant.

With his Pop Off Selecta single, he was dubbed the new Nigerian Usher. That was in 2011. He mesmerized Nigerians with his deft acrobatic moves. Then he disappeared. In 2013, there were hypes about a comeback with Phoenix Records. It was a hoax.

Terry G was his undoing. After the 2009 release of Pass Me Your Love hit, he had a spat with the Akpako Master- producer and star in that hit. He may have won the fight, but it cost him. Terry G has since gone up churning hits after hits. But not AYDOTCOM. He has since closed shop. He recently returned with No sleeping –but he’s fast asleep.

Duncan Mighty is Bitter, Says Gov Amaechi is Allegedly Owing him N50million, Writes an Open Letter

Received this mail from Duncan’s people….

It is on record that on the 30th of March 2011, I, Mr. Okechukwu Duncan Mighty single handedly organized a Celebrity Youth Endorsement Concert in Port Harcourt where I successfully endorsed over 18,000 youths who are eligible voters for the Governor Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

During the organization of the event under the express approval of the Governor of Rivers State and his cabinet, he gave me the sum of Ten Million Naira through the then Secretary to the state Govt. Senator Magnus Abe which totally went into the project. The Governor also gave me his word that the balance of Fifty Million Naira will be paid to me as soon as possible.

In pursuit of the said project, I thereafter raised funds through different sources including personal savings, loans and credit facilities, acquired operational vehicles and branded them for the project, procured several souvenirs, printed many publicity materials, paid for venues, engaged musicians from different parts of the country, undertook logistics such as flight/Accommodation/Transportation and welfare.

The event featured the following A List artistes, comedians and many collection of Port Harcourt Artistes:

Wande Coal and the Mo. Hits Records crew
Banky W
Ice Prince
Stereo Man
Terry G
Jesse Jags
Dj Jimmyjatt
I go die
I go save And lots more.

The project was concluded as scheduled and the results were achieved, but since then it has become almost impossible to have an audience with the Governor so as to get my balance.
I also visited the Govt House on several occasions, and all efforts to get my money proved abortive.

However, the last straw that broke the camel’s back was when the governor systematically started avoiding my calls and personal visits in a bid to deprive me of the balance of the money for a job which I successfully executed.

It is also on record that I have not charged the Rivers State Government a single dime of my professional appearance fee, due to my personal reason/resolve to give back to the society which made me, starting from the government of Rivers State as a mark of honor and respect.

The rumor mills have it that the Governor of Rivers state has given me juicy contracts including all manner of flashy cars, but I stand here today to debunk such tales, because I have not received as much as a bicycle spoke from Governor Amaechi.

My love for the Ikwerre ethnic nationality, the Niger Delta project and the Nigerian dream has seen me working for virtually everything I own today because there is dignity in labour, hence I can never resort to cheap blackmail or character assassination of any person, group or association, therefore I stand to make this declaration that all I am asking for is the payment of my money, thus, this should not be seen as a political campaign of any sort.

Permit me to bring to your notice, the fact that many of his personal aids and security details have come to me severally, soliciting for financial assistance which I usually offered them without any hesitation, not knowing that they all have the notion that their boss, Governor Amaechi has been favoring me through contracts, meanwhile this is not also true.

I have tried frantically on several occasions to meet with the Governor one on one so as to resolve this issue but all to no avail.
Most recently I was invited to a dinner between the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) and the Governor of Rivers State, immediately after my performance at the said event inside government house I ran after the Governor to demand for my money in my usual way, but to my utmost bewilderment the Governor unequivocally told me point blank that I should remember that when we did that transaction he was still working with his former chief of staff, Hon. Nyesom Wike who is now the current minister of state for education. This is exactly what prompted me to take this decision of writing this article in other to recover the money which I worked to earn.

This issue also led to the problem that transpired on Friday the 23rd of may 2014 when I got to the government house gate at 8am, one of the security details named Mr. Jude rudely ordered me to park my car outside the gate, a situation which led to a scuffle and heated argument between me and the said security officer, as a result of this I subsequently held a meeting with my staff on the way forward concerning this same issue after which we agreed that we should channel the ongoing matter through the office of the chief press secretary to the governor Mr. David Iyofor, this we did and the cps after hearing the story promised to help contact the governor who happens to be his boss, but to my chagrin the chief press secretary rather stopped taking my calls up till this moment.

Prior to this time I have not played any event for the commissioners and other cabinet members due to the fact that the they thought they couldn’t afford to pay my appearance fee because I was the governors favorite hence will be unaffordable to them, a predicament that I have also managed to live with, while my friends, family members, staff and fans have all concluded that I have betrayed them by going behind to collect huge sums of money for events at the government house without giving them their own right, whereas I have also not charged the Rivers State government my usual professional appearance fee on events, the present chief of staff to river state government Mr Tony Okocha and Senator Magnus Abe are my witness on this.

Meanwhile due to the multi-lingual nature of Rivers State as a result of different ethnic nationalities, I decided to record a song which I titled PORT HARCOURT BOY where I mentioned the names of various prominent men who have made their mark at one point or the other, even people from other states who lived and did their business in Port harcourt as a way of promoting and uniting the state.

Shortly afterwards the general public started saying that governor Amaechi has been the one behind my career success claiming that he bought me all manner of flashy cars and pays me huge amount of money regularly, meanwhile since I finished the project for the governor he virtually declined paying me the outstanding balance as agreed upon our transaction.
It is also a known fact that before amnesty was given DUNCAN MIGHTY was the first artiste in the entire Niger Delta to embrace the creeks all over the country, using my music to promote peace in the region, encouraging the youths to shun cultism, youth restiveness and other social vices.

The entire entertainment industry within the Niger Delta region actually believed that I was constantly favored by the governor hence they all came to me in 2011 pleading with me to become the chapter president of performing musicians association of Nigeria (PMAN) a move which I constantly rejected so that I can concentrate on my career. All this while God has been my source of inspiration and survival my pillar of strength and protection.

It was also rumored that I was appointed a member of Rivers State carnival committee, and due to their secret nature of meeting and deliberating on carnival issues, my fellow artistes constantly accused me of not caring them along, an accusation which I’ve always struggled to debunk till date.

Moreover, my passion for going all the way to contribute my quota to the development of the entertainment industry in the Niger Delta and Nigeria as a whole was born out of genuine interest, love and previous roles as a professional audio engineer who has worked for many international brands at different capacities.
More also, I need to clear the air on this issue which made a lot of artiste who I was owing some outstanding balance to call me a traitor, saboteur, saying that I have betrayed them by refusing to pay them when in the actual sense I have not received further payment from the Governor, because I didn’t want any further trouble arising from this issue, I had to pay them out of my pocket from my own funds.

Once more, I will like to state that this has nothing to do with party politics, I am seriously appealing to everyone who know Gov Amaechi to tell him to pay me my money in the name of GOD
